Planning holiday care without changing your pet’s whole routine

A practical guide to arranging home visits, preparing supplies and leaving clear instructions before a trip.

Travel planning already comes with plenty of lists. Your pet-care plan can stay simple: agree the visits, explain the routine and make sure someone can act if your plans change.

Pawley Holiday Care is built around visits to your home. It is useful to be precise about that from the start: a series of visits does not provide overnight company or continuous supervision. Discuss your pet’s needs with the team before deciding whether the arrangement fits.

Plan from departure to return

Look at the actual times you leave home and expect to get back, as well as the calendar dates of your trip. Identify which parts of your pet’s routine you will still handle yourself and which you want covered.

Write down your requested visit windows and discuss the number of visits with the team. If your pet has particular needs, seek appropriate professional guidance about a suitable care arrangement rather than assuming a standard schedule will work.

Keep instructions familiar

Prepare the food and equipment your pet already uses and label anything that could be confused. Explain the ordinary routine, including rooms that should remain closed and where your pet likes to settle.

For multiple pets, write individual instructions. Names, bowl locations and a brief description can help avoid mix-ups. Any medication or specialist task needs explicit agreement before care is confirmed.

Build a practical backup plan

Give the team a reachable emergency contact who knows they have been nominated. Agree access arrangements and what should happen if a key, building permission or entry system fails.

Tell your contact and Pawley how travel may affect your availability. If your return is delayed, contact the team promptly: extra visits require availability and confirmation, so they should never be assumed to happen automatically.

Decide how you want to follow along

Ask how care updates will be shared. A report can give you a useful picture of a visit, but it is not a live monitoring service. Keep the report link private and share it only with someone you trust.

Before you travel, check the written booking arrangements, total quote, payment details and cancellation conditions. Sending the request form does not reserve the dates.

Request Holiday Care when you have your dates ready. For the supplies and access details to prepare, use our first-visit checklist.
